Shanghai Olympic Torch Relay

As I mentioned earlier, I went to catch the Olympic torch relay when it was in Shanghai, Nanjing East Road! It was in Shanghai on two days, 23rd and 24th May, 2008.

Let's let the pictures do the talking now!

We were greeted by throes and throes of people when we reach. There were people in tour-like groups...

People who look like walking advertisements...

And people who simply gather to show their patriotism for their country!

See what I mean? Count the number of flags and stars! Note that the red thingy on their tops are sticker China flags.

Of the most agressive advertising organisation around, I think ThinkPad really had a good fight against the China flag. We have people waving them all over, and I was like: "What has this got to do with Olympic?!"
Days before the Olympic torch arrive at the cosmopolitan city of Shanghai, preparations were made to put up the Beijing Olympic 2008 decorations. The roadside stalls were all cleared, making Shanghai 'sanitised' totally.

So people, the Shanghai you saw during the Olympic torch relay is not the real Shanghai okay?

The streets were cordoned off for the relay. Rows of security officials lined the streets.

They really remind me of council camp, when we as elects are not supposed to move and expected to look straight ahead.

The green have to stand still. Only the blue can move. ^^

The marker for the torch bearers.

Here's a green! :P

China military police? They can't move - I wonder what they will do when something really happen!

Continue standing still? Or protect the people? Manage the crisis? :/

Weird that the torch relay became a 'school excursion'.
Even the Ah Ma come to wait early in the morning loh! They are the ultimate pros, along with the aunties, okay! They are the PROs in squeezing and worming their way to the front!

Flags are all over! Even poked some on their heads! >.<

Maybe it's the heat, maybe it's the crowd, maybe it's the tension, the two ladies in the foreground (especially the one on the right) quarrelled with the policeman. I think it was over something about not letting them stand closer? >.< Peace girls! So agressive for what?!

Human markers. I'm glad I'm not them; I'll definitely feel extra!

I'm not pervert okay. I just wanna take a photo of this not-so-authentic tee which says "I heart China"!

Even then, China being China, they have imitations of that too! The hearts on the tees of this couple do not bear the stars of the China flag!

You know, during National Day Parades (NDP) in Singapore, we have temporary tattooes? The Chinese are even better! They simply stick the stickers on their face, arms, hands, clothes, anywhere and everywhere!

Here's the lady before us. She looks kinda sweet actually.

Telecast! It's funny to notice the power of the camera. Once the video camera is facing an area, the people in that area either hide behind the flags or look totally radiant.

The school kids, for one, were led into cheers of "中国,加油!奥运,加油!" by the camera guy.

Patriot! ^^ We will never be able to find Singaporeans who are like him, I think.

She's pretty!!! Right, right, right?!

Anyway, she's really GOOD. She walked across the road through the only allowed opening with her handy camera, kneeled in front of everyone, and stayed there. So smart. This is how Ang Mohs cut queue!

Another shot of the pretty girl! She looks like a doll!

Another camera man, who somehow managed to find a place to stand up/out above the crowd.

Even the chef is 'eating snake' (actually no, the shops are all closed for the Olympic torch relay)!

And finally, the torch bearer finally ARRIVE! In a BUS!

Someone at the back suddenly shout "Oh my god, he's so 帅!" and I noticed that he IS really cute!

See!!! He's looking at me! *gush*

The photos doesn't do him justice, 'cos he looks sooooooo much better in real life!

A man on a bike came over, presumely to tell him what to do. This 窃窃私语 picture will definitely make the girls wish that they are the biker!

抢镜头!>.<

He's so 亲民 lah! Waving and 'oosh-ing' at everyone!

So boyish, so kawaii! My friend says he's Tibetan or something!

I love this picture! A cheering man is a happy man!

And when the previous torch bearer came to light the cutie's torch, of all times, I have to take a blur picture.

And you know why? It's all because the AUNTIE in front was frantically waving the THINKPAD flag! And that affected my focus, cos it was

1. in action, and
2. near.

*Roars* But you guys can see sacred fire right? ^^
