Another death...

Here goes another Chinese guy from EEE who hanged himself dead.

I can't help but be reminded of what I learnt previously about Werther Effect. You can read more about it here.

To put it simply, Werther Effect predicts that following a highly publicised suicide in the media (the stabbing incident was front-page news!), there will be a shocking increase in similar suicides from people with similar backgrounds in the week that follows. The first peak is on the 7th day and the second peak on the 11th.

In this case, today is the 5th. Will we see more of these?

Responsibility, people.

This is the reason why news reporters need to be extra responsible and ethical

With response to the stabbing-suicide incident, there has been a spike in debates on how transparent and responsible the media is in covering the story.

Apparently, an Indonesian friend of David stepped out and clarified (or make it more confused) the situation. In essence, there is a divergence in the story provided by his friend and the news media.

Usually, the stories in the news are seldom doubted by the readers. We place almost 100% trust in what the reports say. There is no room for guessing -- we expect 100% facts, no speculation whatsoever. After all, isn't the media supposed to be objective? Isn't the media supposed to be the watchdog which bites back on untruths? Isn't the media supposed to serve the readers?

The amount of trust the readers place upon news media should not and cannot be misplaced and abused. In the past, maybe, but not now. The once gullible, all-believing readers can now turn to other sources.

With the emergence of new media, it is now even harder to "cover the fire with paper". 纸是包不住火的。

And whether or not the trust relationship of the news media and the readers has been abused, only time will tell. This trust, if misplaced, is hard to rebuild.

Media, beware!

上海植物园

You know Shanghai is really trying hard to be green when there are plenty of parks around! ^^

So, on a random April day, a group of camwhores went to the Shanghai Botanical Gardens, 上海植物园!

We are sooooo camwhorish, whoever didn't run into the picture will have to stay out and take the picture!

As you can see, I was a little slow in the game. >.< As it's initial Spring, there were loads of colourful flowers!

Flower towers at the entrance!

Parks and gardens are perfect for families and couples! ^^

Tulips! Of different colours!

Yellow is the colour of sunshine! This tulip was dyed yellow by the sun!

Okay, I'm not an expert with flowers, but the wide variety of shapes and sizes and colours really impressed me.

Looks fake right? I personally think that it looks like it's made of some cloth with deliberate fraying edges!

Mixed colours! This flower can't decide red or white is better!

Endless! :P

Pink tulip (I hope I get this right)!

I tried very hard to focus on the core... but it's still blur.. >.< Yellow, red, red, yellow, red!

Okay, this flower gives me the sad feeling... :(

Please tell me what's so manly about this flower!

PURPLE!

Windmills that don't turn...

This is really nice! ^^

Haha... I know I'm weird, but I like leaves more than flowers... :X

DAY-SIES! ^^

Butterfly-looking flower!

Yellow "butterfly"?

Trio!

Gourd and pumpkin! Yummy! (Erm... the food, not the people! :X)

The guys tried to imitate the Expo (I think) logo!

The girls too!

Which group did better? :P

Brollies to hide from the pollen!

These are so cute lah! But they look poisonous...

Nice orange colour! Layming, u like? :P

Gardener at work, that's why we have the beautiful pictures!

"Knock knock?"

Haha! I like this! Peek-a-boo effect!

Finally in! But only because Adrian offered to take the picture instead. :X

Big Sister tried to be artistic by doing the half-squat and taking the picture from the center of the spiral tree.

The uncles and aunties have no idea we shot them! Spare for the lighting, it does look like we're in an enclosed house together right? :P

我们手拉手,一起走!

This reminded me of this superstition: one should not walk under a ladder that is placed against the wall. This is because, some cultures used to hang criminals that way, so it's really unlucky.

紫藤!Purple again! I heart!
After camwhoring for some times, we decided to play with the colour accent function in our Canon cameras!

Try it! It's really easy and cool! Find the colour accent menu, choose a colour and shoot away! The photo will be B&W, except the colour u chose. :P

I like this! Accentuated greens!

Lonely pink vine...

Ah Gongs and Ah Mas resting in the fake 'house'.

Then the boys start being restless and climbed about like the vines we see!

Hyper Ed makes it look really easy!

Couple caught unaware! So sweeeeet!

Melvin joins in the fun! Yipee!

Brokeback mountain?

I wanna retire in a country like this.

Because of this shot, we were scolded. :x The people asked if we were monkeys. Well, I would have to say, IT'S NONE OF THEIR BUSINESS!

山茶花, but it's neither a 山 nor a 茶.

Bamboos! Where's my panda?

Parks here like to have amusement rides! But it's really small, only for kids.

I wanna sit there... it'll be nice if I have one of these or swings in my own garden...

Benches! Looks like a misfit!

Dirty water. But I love reflections...

Playground! It's made of wood! Don't the kids look like monkeys? :D (I nearly typed monkies... :/)

Spot the couple! :P

Her Majesty trying her hands at self-take!

Hyper Ed giving a classic over-the-shoulder look! Muahaha!

Bang tree la! The signs are pointing all over! >.< Whee... even parallel lines meet some day. :)

So LOMANTIC, but it's a family on the boat...

Tralala... row, row, row your boat, gently out to sea~ *whistles*

Just look at the number of people! >.< The Orchid house! :D No pictures taken inside though, 'cos Singapore orchids are much better!

WOLS is used to describe me. :(

Hyper Ed is trying to be corny by looking through a 'view finder' that isn't there!

茄子!That's "say cheese" in Chinese.

Okay, I admit I do look at weird placed. But the lights and lines overhead are so often neglected...

Nice right? Repeated patterns/tesellations!

Here's Adrian and me and our "Baby Orange Juice".

The Ah Ma wonders what Melvin is doing...

Lanterns everywhere - mini ones for the doors and windows! ^^

Too slow again! across the bridge some more! >.< The Wind Pavilion!

What are these birds ar? Mandrin ducks?

Do I still need to say more?

SO GREEN! I was half-expecting to find a frog, but well... this is not the lotus leaf. :X

I like this strong and sturdy picture!

Accentuated green!

Some door. Production behind the doors - I wonder what kind of production.

The brave warriors!

I'm so sorry, but I always cut Adrian's face in half!

Oopsy! Notice how more and more people appear in the picture!

Cheese!

And I found this bowl of dessert in the greenhouse. Hm... Even plants need to eat?

My darling, now 'Hebe'! :D

Whee.. I have a perky butt here! :X

I am getting good at these artistic shots yea?

This is not scandalous. You want something scandalous? Go take a look at my Facebook pictures!

Kawaii!

Only smarties have the answer!

I think I'll miss these chinese roofs when I return...

Another curvy water stream...

Muahaha... I like the kid! They look like they are dancing!

Picnic! My dad and mum used to bring me and my brother to picnic too! And we'll play with the malay kids at the beach...

Haha... One of my favourite picture. It just so happen that the three in red made my background.

Hairy flowers!

The Ah Gong climbed very high to take a picture lor! But I zoomed until you cannot see how high he climbed. Hehehe...

Sorry, but I'm a really sneaky photographer. I like natural, spontaneous expressions. :)

"I love Daddy!"

*sighs*

There's this little fishing 'pool' where little kids fish for little fishes.

Apparently, the boy is thinking of making himself the bait...

Staring intently helps the fish to concentrate on your bait, ya know? :P

While some lucky kids get to fish, the other not-so-lucky kids can only stand by and watch.

Well, better than not being able to go to the park right?

Hiding in the shade...

So dreamy...

绣球花! Does it look like a ball of flowers to you?

This looks like it's made of crepe paper...

And it's called 'Beautiful Woman Cherry'.

Tower-like flower bunches!

This looks like the 环朱咯咯 (is it written like this?) headgear's flowers!

And now in purplish-pink!

The national treasure of China - PANDA!

Jumbo the Purple Elephant!

Orange the Giraffe!

Sunshiney the Tortoise!

Bugs the Bunny!

The girl is pointing at I-don't-know-what.

Day-sies!! I love day-sies! But for some reason, this picture looks pinkish!

Everyone wants a piece of the flowers!

Random building that sorta reminds me of SCI. *shrugs*

The Olympic mascots!

Another of those 环朱咯咯 headgear flower.

Colourful! I like! ^^

Artistic shot by me!

Supposed to be artistic... but Melvin was hungry.

Special leaves!

绿叶衬托红花~

Melvin was still hungry after eating those flowers... so he decided to chomp on some bamboo!

I have super power!

Lovely day!

Some stone. I have no idea what is engraved on it!

The kid pulled her mum in after seeing us wreak havoc amongst the bamboos!

We saw some hoops and decided to do some fake basketball stunts! Here's Kian Tong making dunking in the red-jacket-ball.

Lazy bums. But good life, eh?

Me with the wonderful girls! :D

Here's a model of the tropical area! :D

It's refreshing to the Chinese, but pretty boring to all of us. After all, Singapore is summer all year round!

See the greens until a bit sian! -_-

I wonder how the trunks (?) twine together like this... like lovers in embrace!

I have no idea! >.< href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgyg-4nRqK4PtJU_7aLD3ufw9I1aWjaaRH1iO9rihygvipxc10iBEcETPsHsnBgU1WfWYCuwoqhP5pmmLteRQ1L1ltF0qNtWcH6k2sIsFVrCYJdRXUxZ2DyQ9t3fydVoeKNUH64/s1600-h/IMG_3027.jpg"> Bridge-looking cactus!

There's a place in Shanghai called 新世界 too!

Curly cactus!

Curly!!! Digress a little... I like guys with curly hair! Like Jayjay! ^^

Never-ending cactus! I think it's taller than a giraffe (kidding)!

Hairy cactus!

Cactus without it's spikes! I thought the spikes help the cactus to reduce water loss!

I like the name! But I don't think it looks like piggy ears!

Pink daisies! ^^

Purple! MY FAVOURITE COLOUR! (I don't care if you say purple is the colour for gays! It makes me gay!)

Starrie flowers!

Some area which was closed.

Clovers. Can you spot the four-leaved clover? ^^

Miniature water wheel. It's really small, but I made it look big. Haha!

Bonsai garden!

These are decorations for the bonsai!

Human figures to rest on the bonsai!

I have a special love for red leaves... It makes it feel like autumn, even though it's only spring then.

Peach blossoms, which were already wiltering.

Hearts!

Love birds!

This is also actually quite small... Looks like a big mountain (ignore the roof in the background), eh?

Haha! Giraffe skin! :X

Whee... More people taking photos of the colourful flowers, even when we're leaving the place!

We then went to one of the house, found a emo-spot and took a few emo pictures...

This is my favourite. The smile is so real, simply because he didn't know I was shooting and was laughing at some jokes. Haha!

Emo Kian Tong! :X

All in all, the Shanghai Botanical Gardens is pretty worth the visit. Do bring your picnic mat and your camera!

Of course, don't forget to bring your family, friends or partner there! ^^
